On Thursday, February 25, 2010, Houston Style Magazine was on hand as The University of Houston Friends of Women’s Studies presented the 13th Annual Table Talk at the Hilton Americas Hotel. A brief reception begin the affair before Andrea Georgsson and Sarah Cooper gave the welcome and introductions. Some featured conversationalists included Joy Sewing, Shelby Hodge, Dr. Kathryn Peek, Shanta Raghuthaman, Janie Reyes, Dr. Jennifer Wheler, Pam Holm, Lillian Care, Helen Berger, Carla Powers, Le Loe, Sue Payne, Dr. Joanie Hare, and Dr. Willa Hsueh. Mayor Annise Parker and Commissioner Sylvia R. Garcia were special honorees.
HLSR Barbeque Cook Off
On February 25, 2010 Houston Style Magazine was on hand at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Barbecue cook off. A long standing tradition with the rodeo it is one of the official kick offs to open the rodeo. As far as the eye could see were rows of tents with a lot of food smelling food. Over 300 teams competed for the title of Grand Champion during the 3 day festival. Champions from previous years have included Crown Royal Tent, the Bud Light Tent, and the K.I.L.T. Tent.
41st Annual NAACP Image Awards
On Friday, February 26, 2010, Houston Style Magazine was on hand as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Houston Branch presented the 41st Annual NAACP Image Awards at Advantage BMW Showroom. With the theme “Hollywood Comes to Houston,” the NAACP Houston Branch honored local celebrities and community heroes who support and promote NAACP mission. The 2010 honorees were various members of the black media. Houston Style Magazine publisher Francis Page, Jr. proudly accepted the NAACP Image Award from Houston branch President Carolyn Scantlebury and first vice president Rev. Reginald Lillie.
