Finally – “cool” allergy awareness accessories! The AllerMates® crew was created by a family of young children with multiple food allergies who discovered that there was a lack of kid-friendly, allergy awareness products available. Out of necessity AllerMates® was born!

In an effort to improve SAT/ACT test scores and prepare students for one of the most important exams of their life, Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.’s High School Leadership Development Committee (HSLD) has partnered with The Education and Charities Foundation of Houston to Host an All-Male and Parent SAT/ACT Preparation Workshop. The event is Saturday, May 8, 2010, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Phillis Wheatley High School, 4900 Market Street, and is free and open to all male Houston-area high school students and their parents.

There has never been a more important time for community colleges in our nation’s history than now. Community colleges have jumped to the forefront of what is working and what needs to evolve in higher education. And yet the recruitment, retention and graduation rate of African American and Hispanic males in higher education is one of the major issues confronting colleges and universities across the United States.
For some people, financial fitness can be as simple as having a positive checkbook balance after the bills are paid each month. For others, the goals are more ambitious – comfortable retirement at an early age, new cars, luxury vacations – the financial fitness equivalent of six-pack abs.
ExxonMobil Foundation announced today a $1 million grant to Spelman College to provide scholarships to black women pursuing technology-related degrees. The Women in Science and Engineering Scholars program is the second contribution from the company to help facilitate the recruitment, retention and graduation of black females pursuing degrees in chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science.
Even if you do not have a college-aged child at home, please share this with someone who does, pass this scholarship information on to anyone and everyone that comes to mind. Though there are a number of companies and organizations that have donated moneys for scholarship use to African Americans, a great deal of the money is being returned because of a lack of interest.

TSU and HISD, with funding from Chevron, are collaborating to create the TSU Back to Basics Summer Institute.
