UNCF: On This Day In History. . .
On this day (May 11th) in 1957, Senator John F. Kennedy presented his Pulitzer Prize award of $500 to UNCF at a meeting in Massachusetts. His book, Profiles in Courage, won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography in 1957 and remains one of the definitive books written on both political courage and the U.S. Senate. Senator Kennedy is pictured below at UNCF meeting that was held less than a week earlier (May 6, 1957) in Kresge Auditorium on the campus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. (L. to R.) Dr. Richard M. Owens, Pastor, People’s Baptist Church; Senator John F. Kennedy; and Dr. Alonzo G. Moron, President of Hampton Institute (now University).
