Sugarland Police Department is Right on Target
Recently, the Sugar Land Police Department has solved burglaries and a shooting incident with the aid of surveillance cameras. Last week on the news, a sergeant from the department informed the public that if more surveillance systems were utilized, more crimes would be solved. I must say, I totally agree with the sergeant, in my campaign while running for Constable of Precinct 7, I said I would help bring surveillance cameras to the precinct. You have to understand this, if you bring the business community, law enforcement, and citizens together, we could put enough funds together to place cameras in areas besieged by crime and watch crimes as they unfold and apprehend the criminals in action. Dispatchers can report suspicious vehicles canvassing the area and send a patrol unit to investigate before a crime can even be committed.
Last year, the MacGregor area was undergoing a burglary festival, while law enforcement agencies appeared to be helpless to stop what seemed like burglaries at will incidents. Believe me, the key to preventing and solving crimes is modern technology, which is available today. Why our law enforcement people are not taking advantage of surveillance cameras in our communities, I cannot tell you why. I can guarantee you one thing. When I become Constable of Precinct 7, there will be meetings held consisting of law enforcement agencies from all jurisdictions, the business communities, and civic organizations to propose a surveillance camera system throughout Precinct 7 and other areas surrounding Precinct 7. It is time to shorten the rope around the criminals’ necks, and put them on “Candid Camera.” And please don’t worry about that “right to privacy” crap, in the public, nobody has the expectation of privacy. Criminals for too long have enjoyed the freedom of movement in our business communities, and our neighborhoods without the fear of detection. You must understand this; the same people are committing these crimes over and over again. Surveillance cameras will change criminals’ habits. That is why when I ‘m Constable, I will meet with state representatives and demand a change to laws to impose longer sentences for thieves to help improve your quality of life. Out of here.
