Rock Out Your Affair with Prop Rock
Thinking out of the box is the way a lot of today’s successful entrepreneurs began their businesses. Feeling trapped by the four walls of Corporate America, Jade Gold’s inner creative child was screaming to come out. In 2008, Gold finally started listening and let her artistic side run wild. Before she began her business, Gold knew she wanted to utilize her imagination, be her own boss, and make money. Taking an inventory of businesses in the city, Gold noticed that there was no one in the city of Houston who rented furniture with customizable options for their clients. The light bulb was turned on and Gold got to work and married her ideas to the demands of the community. “When you think about how lucrative that industry is I just feel as though that was something that was going to be a niche for the market in Houston,” said Gold. Therefore, in July 2008, Prop Rock was born.
Prop Rock is a lounge and specialty furniture rental store. “Our specialty is customized event lounge furniture,” said Gold. The company prides itself on making every event unique and different as well as have its own signature style. “Rather than just going to typical rentals, we are able to customize it without all the additional cost,” said Gold. “Each event has its own personality, so what we do for a wedding wouldn’t necessarily be done for a trade show or something we would do for an award show isn’t something that we would do for NBA All Star Weekend. There is a special way to create a look for an event, coordinate certain colors, and end up with a specific look.”
Her ideas are inspired by the world. She has traveled extensively and always notices the decor in the different restaurants, hotels, and other places throughout the cities of the many countries to which she has traveled. “Décor is everywhere,” expressed Gold. Since she is a lover of décor, her furniture rental company does more than just rents furniture. “Your lighting and furniture are the two most important things outside of the food that is served at an event,” said Gold. At Prop Rock, clients may also take advantage of their lighting and pipe draping services. “We really do the whole theme for an event, ” expressed Gold.
New horizons will open for Gold and her clients in 2010 when customers will not only be ably to rent furniture but if they really love it, they may actually get to own it. LeReve will soon be the retail arm of Prop Rock so that their many clients may now have spaces reflective of their unique personalities. “LeReve’ means the dream. Our mission is dream furniture you can afford,” said Gold.
Furniture pieces may be rented individual, as sets, or Prop Rock can design an entire production. Minimum packages begin at $500. This price includes setting up and breaking down all decor and a project manager and warehouse manager if needed. Prop Rock can decorate a small house party or one the magnitude of the White House. Gold did get the opportunity to decorate a party for President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C. Other clients include the Latin Grammy’s, Texas Music Festival, Tiffany & Co., and Saks. Anyone’s name can be added to the list as Prop Rock has also done graduation parties, weddings, etc. Next year on April 2, Gold and her Prop Rock team can be seen in action on the Bravo’s series “Party Mammas’.”
