Residual Racism, It’s the Real Thing – Part 3

All of this time, I assumed because of my released, but most importantly, my complete innocence, I had no criminal record. I said to myself why anyone would leave such an evil and vicious piece of an untruth on a young black man’s future, unless it was intentionally done to insure he had no future. For years, I drank [More...] myself into more than several stupors because I had no answer to my continued misery of not being able to complete my mission in life of becoming a police officer. To make matters worse, I read the original offense report, we looked nothing like the suspects, nor did my vehicle remotely resemble the suspect’s vehicle…(ATTEMPTED RAILROAD) I had a good heart. I loved people. I loved helping people. I did the right things, except for being born white. Words can’t begin to described how bitter I felt, even now my taste buds are numb because the truth is, if I were born white, I would have been the commander of the Texas Rangers a long time ago.

From World War 1, 2, the Korean War, and even the Vietnam War, black men have come home to restaurants with signs saying “Color People Use the Backdoor.” We were good enough to die for this country but couldn’t use the front doors in the land our bodies bled for all Americans to enjoy freedom. How dare any white person say that was in the past when residual racism is still alive and well. The hangings for being born black and now you disrespect our presidency because the president is a black man. Shame on you. President Obama is no more a socialist, than you are black, or you would be proud as hell that America has finally elected a president for all people and not for the almighty dollar.

Because of Constable A.B. Chambers and Chief Lee P. Brown, I was able to become an officer, but no thanks to the peace officer who knowingly arrested two innocent good black men who didn’t become bitter enough to become criminals like the arrest was designed to do. Well at least the arresting officer had good luck in his career; he became Constable of Harris County Precinct 5, and is currently a Harris County Commissioner. Thanks for opening my eyes Commissioner Steve Radack. Out of here.
