Tameka Raymond needs little introduction, as her career as stylist to Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z and ex-husband, Usher has made a name for her in the fashion and entertainment industries. However, Raymond’s new boutique, Estella, is what merits an introduction. Welcoming Estella to her Atlanta homeland, Raymond created a warm, homey atmosphere where you can find comfy couches, flat screen TV’s, and floral arrangements alongside apparel and accessories by YSL, Missoni, and BCBG. But the best gift of all at Estella is not even for you; Twenty percent of your purchase benefits Raymond’s non-profit organization, the Lost Ones Foundation for at-risk girls between the ages of 12 and 18.
From 2001-2006, Bernie Mac, the late American comedian, was the “star” of a television show appropriately titled “The Bernie Mac Show.” This was a very funny sitcom that was based on his life with his wife after they instantly became the parents of his drug-addicted sister’s three children. Some of the show’s most memorable scenes were those with Bernie Mac speaking directly to the television audience. He always began this monologue with “America, …” and continued by detailing his inner thoughts about what he was dealing with in his unique (for him) parental situation at hand that made him scratch his head in a logical manner.
Just 375 square feet, the walk-up cafe will offer a pared down menu including breakfast selections such as the Greek Link Sausage Pita with potatoes, grilled onions and peppers and a sunny side up egg ($3.95) and Greek yogurt and honey ($3). Soup, traditional appetizers (hummus, tabuli salad), salads and pita sandwiches (among them souvlaki and chicken kebab) round out the menu. Beer, wine and Nikorita’s are available, as well as soft drinks.
“As scripted.” That’s a phrase one of our television producers barks (or gently intones) in our ears when everything is to proceed as planned. It hardly ever happens on a college football Saturday. It would never happen every Saturday. But the 2009 season largely went “as scripted.”
Did you know that from the AP poll on Sept. 20 through the poll just before conference championship weekend that the same three teams occupied the top three spots? Alabama, Texas and Florida were the dominant trio pretty much wire to wire.
