Leadership Houston Honors Civic Leadership

Leadership Houston presented the 2009 Leadership in Action Awards during a Wednesday luncheon at the River Oaks Country Club. Eleven extraordinary civic programs and projects were honored for their remarkable and positive impact on the Houston community.
“Leadership Houston is proud to honor the recipients of the 2009 Leadership in Action Awards,” says Laurie Bricker, Leadership in Action Awards Chairperson. “Each collaborative project was truly inspirational.”
The winners of the 2009 Leadership in Action Awards were: The Masquerade Theatre for Arts & Culture; Collaborative for Children for Children, Youth & Families; Houston Independent School District for Education; Hermann Park Conservancy for Environmental Improvement; Children’s Defense Fund for Health & Human Services; Neighborhood Centers Inc. and Chevron for Health & Human Services; KHOU-TV/DT Channel 11 and Wreaths Across America Houston Planning Committee for Military Outreach; Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program, Inc. for Neighborhood Improvement; Brays Oaks Management District for Quality of Life; Education Foundation of Harris County for Science & Technology and Senior Care Advisors of Texas for Seniors.
Among those in attendance included, Houston ISD Superintendant Dr. Abe Saavedra; State Representative Dr. Alma Allen; Houston ISD Board of Education President Larry Marshall; Houston ISD Board Members Diana Davila, Paula Harris, and Greg Meyers; Harris County Department of Education Board Members Louis Evans, Debra Kerner and Roy Morales; KHOU-TV News Anchor Len Cannon, Leadership Houston Chairperson Caroline Baker Hurley and former Houston Texans Linebacker Kailee Wong.
The Leadership in Action Awards are presented annually to recognize nonprofits and corporations that have made extraordinary contributions through their programs and projects toward the betterment of life in the greater Houston Area.
