Marshall Student Selected for Membership in National Society of High School Scholars

Ciara Suesberry, an incoming senior at Marshall High School, has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). The Society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved superior academic excellence. The announcement was made by the NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, a senior member of the family that established the Nobel prizes.

Membership in NSHSS entitles qualified students to enjoy a wide variety of benefits including, scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, free events, members only resources, publications, participation in programs offered by educational partners, online forums, personalized recognition items, and publicity honors.

During the 2008-09 school year, Ciara was enrolled in Gifted and Talented Pre-calculus classes, was a member of the Student Council, the Precious Pearls girls’ club, and the school’s softball team. She was also an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) student and an Honor Roll student with recognition of achievement in English and theater arts. Ciara was recently notified by Creative Communication that her poem, titled “Which Way?” was selected to appear in the Spring 2009 anthology, A Celebration of Poets. Also, this summer she will attend the 28th Honors Colloquium at the University of Texas at Austin, a three-day program open to exceptional students from throughout the state.
