Houston's budding fashion designers are gearing up for an enthralling display of creativity and innovation at the Houston Community College (HCC) Central Campus. The highly anticipated annual Spring Fashion Show, set to dazzle audiences on May 3, 2024, will present the latest collections from 14 talented student designers from the Fashion Design Program. This year's event, themed "Chromatique," promises a spectacular evening filled with color and light, exploring the scientific and aesthetic qualities of chromatics.

Located at the William W. Harmon Building at 1300 Holman Street, the fashion show is a culmination of hard work and artistic vision, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the runway coming alive at 7:30 p.m. The Chromatique theme, inspired by the French interpretation of chromatic, which historically relates to both music and color, offers a perfect backdrop for the students to showcase their abilities in combining vibrant colors and innovative designs.

Among the highlights of this year’s show is the participation of Cesia Padilla, a rising star in the fashion program, whose collection has been guided by the skilled hand of her sister, Estrella Padilla—an HCC alumna and former participant in the show. Reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of her own experience, Estrella's support has been instrumental in preparing Cesia for her debut on the HCC runway. "Both my mother and sister are my inspiration," Cesia remarked, acknowledging the family's deep roots in the fashion industry that trace back to their mother's career as a seamstress in Honduras.

Cheryl Whitaker, Chair of the HCC Fashion Design Program, praised the students for their passion and dedication, which she believes are vividly reflected in their collections. "These students have put their all into the designs you'll see, making each piece not only visually stunning but also rich with story and intent," Whitaker stated.

The HCC Fashion Design Program offers comprehensive instruction in the elements of design, allowing students to experiment with lines, colors, fabrics, patterns, textures, and styles to create original garments. Offering both an associate degree and certificates, the program is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of fashion industry professionals.
